I sat down to write this thinking, "Where do I even start with a girl like you?" and honestly, my brain just started playing a montage of every hilarious, chaotic, and heartwarming moment we’ve shared over these years.
Do you realize how long we’ve been at this? We’ve officially graduated from "friends" to that level of "bestie" where I’m pretty sure we’re legally responsible for each other’s crimes—or at least for hiding the evidence. Looking back at the old times, I can’t help but laugh at how much we’ve changed (and how much we haven't). From the endless conversations that lasted until the sun came up, to the inside jokes that would make absolutely zero sense to anyone else, you’ve been the most consistent, vibrant part of my life.
You’ve seen me at my absolute best and my "I haven't washed my hair in three days and I’m eating cereal for dinner" worst, and for some reason, you’re still here. That either makes you a saint or just as crazy as I am—I’m betting on the latter.
Opeyemi, you are genuinely one of the most beautiful souls I know. You have this way of making everything better just by being in the room (or on the other end of the phone). You’re the person I want to vent to, the person I want to celebrate with, and the person I know will always give it to me straight, even when I’m being a complete drama queen.
For this new chapter of your life, I have some very specific wishes for you:
May your bank account be as full as your heart (and your camera roll).
May your skin stay glowing and your enemies stay bothered.
May you never lose that ridiculous sense of humor that makes me snort-laugh at the worst possible times.
May we have 50 more years of making memories that we’ll probably have to lie to our grandkids about.
You deserve a day that is as iconic, sweet, and legendary as you are. Eat all the cake, take all the photos, and remember that I love you more than I love hitting the snooze button on a Monday morning—and you know that’s a whole lot of love.
